Lewis Hamilton has made a great start to the 2019 season behind the wheel of the Mercedes AMG F1 W10. He won three of the first five Grand Prix races and finished second twice. With this record he could start the race in the Principality, where Mercedes were also favourites.
The Monaco Grand Prix was held in Monte-Carlo from 23 to 26 May 2019. Hamilton took pole position and stayed in the lead after the start, with his Finnish teammate behind him at the back. The race was rocked by the arrival of the safety car, when several drivers pitted. It was then that Verstappen came alongside Bottas on the post-tire change exit, causing a collision and a puncture for the Finn. This forced the Finn to change tyres again on the next lap, and Verstappen was later found guilty by the stewards and given a 5-second time penalty. The Dutchman's only chance was to get ahead and he started to put pressure on race leader Hamilton, whose tyres were starting to run out. But the British driver fought back the Dutchman's attacks and was eventually the first to take the chequered flag. After the race, Hamilton dedicated his victory to the memory of Niki Lauda.Minichamps also released Hamilton's Monaco Mercedes in 1:18 scale. The team commemorated Niki Lauda, who died days before the race, by painting his helmet red and adding a red star on the engine cover, and Hamilton by painting his helmet.
